Earlier this year, Tough Mudder announced that they were doing away with their coveted finisher shirts. People were horrified, petitions were created, some said they would never do another Mudder again.
We just heard from Ben Johnson, Head of Communications, over at Tough Mudder and he let ORM know that every 2015 Tough Mudder finisher will be receiving a finisher shirt.
He told us “While we remain committed to investing in the greatest obstacles and hosting the best events, we know that the shirts are a symbol of pride for Mudders around the world, and we took action to fix this mistake. If you have any questions feel free to send them my way, but in short this was the wrong decision made for the right reasons”.
A Tough Mudder Blog goes on to say that “Everyone who completes a Tough Mudder event in 2015 will get a finisher tee. No red tape, no process, just a badass finisher tee you can wear with pride”.
Here is the blog post in it’s entirety.
Mudders,
Most of the year we spend our time outside in the dirt and mud, building and running events… probably the greatest job on the planet. The highlight – whether we’re in the swamps of Florida or the desert of Arizona – is talking to you all on site on event weekends. We love hearing your stories about the teamwork and training, camaraderie, the obstacles you love and the obstacles you love to hate. Following our first two events of the season, we heard your feedback loud and clear: we nailed the new obstacles and improved the event, but we ruined the finisher experience by removing t-shirts. So we’re fixing it.
Everyone who completes a Tough Mudder event in 2015 will get a finisher tee. No red tape, no process, just a badass finisher tee you can wear with pride.
We care about the experience. A lot. And we are going to keep investing the hard earned dollars you spend to build the best new obstacles, design the most creative courses, and bring together the most inspiring people on the planet. The kind of people that don’t take themselves too seriously, but deeply value the experience of escaping their computers, getting muddy, bloody and bruised, and having a beer with friends to celebrate.
We are incredibly proud of this community that we’ve built together, and we hope to see you in the mud.

Note: Mudders who completed this month’s Gulf Coast or Arizona events and did not receive a shirt on site, we will be emailing you for your size and mailing address.

Kudos for admitting your mistake but seriously, that was a bad idea on so many levels.
