Had a very special episode planned for the the podcast tonight with 2013 Barkley Winner (and only 15th finisher ever) Nick Hollon.
Then all of the craziness of the Boston Marathon happened.
I was planning the show, editing audio files, etc when the posts started. I spent the rest of the afternoon communicating with people I knew, and people looking to find out if those people were ok, etc.
I was able to get Shaun Provost, Andi Hardy, and Ang Reynolds on the phone. I also saw a post from Josh Grant and realized that he was down there as well. He and I went back and forth on facebook for a while, and he wasn’t sure he wanted to talk. I gave him space and told him that it would be fine if we didn’t. Then he wrote back a short while later and said he really wanted to.
I was really glad he did. Hearing him talk about what it was like to be down there with his 5 1/2 year old son really put things in perspective for me. My daughter is that age, and my son is 3 1/2.
I am also including the map that he referred to which shows how close he was. The red circle is the first explosion. The green is the 2nd. The purple dot is where he was when the bombs went off.
After I played the Marathon interviews and talked to Josh, I decided that it would be an uplifting way to end the show by playing the interview with Nick after all. So I did.
Here is the link to the podcast.
