One possibility for the charity, is that TMHQ still gets to count the donation as a tax write off. It would allow them to “give” something to a winner, but still get a corporate financial benefit. I’m not guaranteeing this, because I don’t know how their structuring the donation, but it is very, very likely

Now, reading in the show notes, I see that it is a private GoFundMe. Perhaps the organizers are going with charity to encourage people to donate. Potential donors might be swayed by their dollars going to charity. This might also still allow a tax benefit.
