From Sam Abbitt – CEO of Savage Race.
Hey guys, you may have heard by now that we won’t be offering Sundays in most locations next year. What we are doing instead is offering Blitz and Race on Saturdays at all locations. Florida will be the only event to keep its Sunday and BlitzPRO.
We went wide in 2019 and rolled out full weekends in all markets. We wanted that to work, but the event demand showed us that most people really only want to do events on Saturdays, and we weren’t getting enough people on Sundays to justify having both days open. The extra day of production costs with not enough runners on Sunday does not make it feasible to continue. Saturday events are still rolling strong!
Our participants always come first, and this is a move to ensure the longevity of the brand so that we can keep providing world class events for you.
I know that some will be disappointed by the loss of Sunday events next year, but there are benefits to having Race and Blitz on the same day. For one example, now people who travel to Savage can earn their at Syndicate in a single day by doing a Race and a Blitz lap. Another benefit is that teams split between people running Race and Blitz don’t have to participate on different days, and are now able to travel and hang out together in the festival area. Perhaps the biggest benefit is that new people to the sport running a Blitz will get to meet and interact with the vets running Race over a few beers in the festival.
For those who are disappointed with this decision, I’m truly sorry. It pains me to disappoint even a single person, but this was what needed to be done. Ultimately, I think this will be a big win for Savage Race and our participants.
