The Out of Towners

Obstacle racers never cease to amaze me.

I was chatting with obstacle racer/death racer Anthony Matesi one night on Facebook.  We were talking about how we are currently training for the upcoming Spartan Ultra Beast. I mentioned in passing, and half kidding, that he should drive down to Georgia to train with Andi Hardy and I the next time we carry sandbags up Stone Mountain.

Well, a few messages back and forth between he and fellow Midwesterner (and CornFed Spartan) Maureen Randall, and they were in their car headed here for an 11 hour drive on Friday night of Labor Day weekend.

Well, we had a blast, and you can read a lot of details in Anthony’s Blog below, so I won’t spoil it for you.

I just want to put it out there how lucky I feel to have met and get to be around people who are willing to be so unreasonable.

Thank you Maureen and Anthony. I am better for knowing you.

Read Anthony’s tale here: Part One and Part Two.

They drove 11 hours each way with no sleep just to train with us. The least I could have done was make em some sandbags.
