Rugged Maniac History
Rugged maniac was started in 2010 with their first race in Southwick, MA. While their first race in 2010 was more of a mud run they came back strong in 2011 with more races and more obstacles. From there they have become one of the top racing organizations for obstacle course racing; in 2011 they had 9 races and now in 2015 over 20 races.
In 2014 Rugged Maniac also upped their position and strength by going on Shark Tank and bringing on investor Mark Cuban with a $1.75M Investment for 25% stake in the company. Besides the great news of having more liquid capital than most likely any other obstacle racing company – they now have an investor that will not accept failure. You can expect Rugged Maniac to be around for the long haul.
Rugged Maniac Race Format
All rugged maniac races are approximately 5k (3.1 miles) in length. There are a variety of obstacles that test your skill, strength, and stamina. See the obstacles section for what you should look out for.

- The only real rules that apply are for the elite heats.
- You must complete all obstacles or you are not eligible for prizes in the elite heats.
- For all other racers obstacles are optional with no penalty
